Austin is the third-best city for filmmakers, according to Moviemaker.com.

The list was based on the following factors: film production in 2015 (shooting days, number of productions and dollars generated), film community and culture, access to equipment and facilities, tax incentives, cost of living, lifestyle, weather and transportation.

Austin Studios, ATX Studios, Rooster Teeth Productions, Spiderwood Studios, South By Southwest and Troublemaker Studios — plus Austin directors Robert Rodriguez and Richard Linklater — get some of the credit for building Austin into a filming hotspot, Moviemaker.com said. The website also gave big shout-outs to up-and-coming filmmakers Yen Tanand Jason Cortlund.

"Even as storm clouds gather around public funding for Texas productions, Austin remains weird, cool and friendly," the review said. "The city has famous bars and BBQ. There are more than 300 days of sunshine, a deep pool of seasoned crew and production staff, top-notch film schools and a nigh-unparalleled line-up of film festivals and independent theaters."

Movies filmed in Austin include critically acclaimed flicks such as Boyhood and Chef and fan-favorites Dazed & Confused, Death Proof and Office Space. Let us know which is your favorite by voting in the ABJ online poll.

Atlanta ranked No. 1 because of its growing infrastructure and workforce development, tax incentive, thriving music scene, affordable housing, pleasant weather and 132 Waffle House locations. The city has climbed the ranks significantly since last year's list, when it ranked No. 6 behind Austin, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York and San Francisco.

Here's the full top 10 list for 2016:

  1. Atlanta

  4. Los Angeles

  5. Albuquerque, N.M.
